  • Chapter
European Business

Abstract

This chapter explores briefly the origins of the European Union (EU) and how it has developed from the founding discussions of the early 1950s to its present position as one of the major world trading groupings. The main EU decision-making organisations which impact on European businesses by the policies they develop, will be discussed. How the EU might develop in future, particularly the debate concerning widening and deepening of the EU, will also be analysed.
