Abstract

Great trading corporations dominate the climax state of a capitalist economy, comparable to the great trees that dominate a mature forest. Like the great trees, they were once seeds and then saplings and, like the great trees, they will fall one day. Some will last longer than others and, when their time is up, some will crash while others will rot in place. Some will seem to be on the point of collapse and yet gain a new lease of life; others will be cut down while still strong and turned into sawn timber or even firewood.
