Abstract
To empirically test the effect of the pedagogical intervention, a randomized pretest-posttest design with one experimental group and two control groups was adopted. Instruction was conducted following the CLIC instructional model, which involves two steps: inform the learners of the nature of the lexical meaning they should seek, and teach them how to infer lexical meanings.
