Abstract

Organizational change is a major concern of nurses in today’s health care system. Nurse managers in hospitals hold the key to a critical mass in health care delivery—the nursing services that are its backbone. How nurse managers structure health care delivery and what organizational climate they establish for nursing practice combine to influence quality of patient care and hospital performance. There is increasing evidence that comprehensive organizational change is an effective way to cope with current and future demands for nursing care.
