Juridische aspecten spelen voortdurend een rol in het maatschappelijk werk. Of het nu gaat om reïntegratie, schulden, samenlevingsvormen of scheiden, kopen, huren of uithuisplaatsing van jeugdigen, in alles zit het recht van de mens verweven. Het is dan ook onmogelijk om al deze regels en wetten en de rechten van mensen te kennen.
