This video demonstrates the surgical removal of impacted upper right and lower right third molar teeth. The accompanying narration explains each step in the procedures and includes a brief discussion of precautions that should be taken in order to avoid complications. The video was recorded using a loupe-mounted camera, giving the viewer a unique perspective.

Introduction

As in this case, lower third molar extraction is often facilitated by ostectomy around the tooth and by tooth sectioning. The lower third molar tooth in this video is mesioangularly impacted. After gaining access to the tooth via a buccal full-thickness mucoperiosteal flap, bone is removed on the buccal aspect using a rotary instrument. The crown is sectioned at the level of the cementoenamel junction, and the crown and roots are removed separately. The upper third molar tooth is distoangularly impacted and is accessed through a distobuccal mucoperiosteal flap.
