Discover everything you need to know to get started with Azure SQL Database, from deployment, to key features to migration and monitoring! This video introduces Azure SQL Database, a general-purpose relational database-as-a-service (DBaaS). Beginning from a base deployment of an Azure SQL instance, you will be introduced to the cloud-native features of the service and discover how to run highly available and production-ready database back-ends on Azure, without the underlying database server virtual machines.

After the base deployment walkthrough, you’ll learn how to replicate business-critical databases across multiple regions, as well as how to migrate a database from on-premises or VM-based scenarios to Azure SQL Database.

What You Will Learn

  • Understand Azure Database Services and Azure SQL Database

  • Deploy an Azure SQL Database instance

  • Scale Azure SQL Database using elastic pools

  • Migrate a database from on-premises to Azure

  • Troubleshoot Azure SQL Database

Who This Video Is For

Data professionals who want to learn about migrating, deploying, and monitoring Azure SQL Database. Viewers should have an Azure subscription (trial, MSDN, AzurePass, CSP, EA, pay as you go).

Welcome to this Apress training video covering deploying and migrating to Azure SQL, helping you in understanding how to optimize your SQL workloads in the cloud. My name is Peter De Tender. I’m the CEO of #007FFF Learning, a company focused on providing Azure readiness and architect services all over the world.

In my 22 years in the IT industry as an overall Microsoft expert, I spent the last six years on traveling about 90% of my time across the globe, providing Azure readiness workshops to larger [INAUDIBLE] partners, customers, and Microsoft internal teams, mixed with providing consulting and working as an Azure architect.

I’m a Microsoft Certified trainer, an Azure advisor and Azure management elite member, and an Azure MVP for five years. Besides creating courseware like this one for Apress and different publishers, as well as delivering virtual and online in-person training, I spend a lot of my free time on writing technical books and covering Azure topics.

If you should have any questions related to the course or any questions on Azure in general, feel free to reach out. And you’ll find my contact details here peter@pdtit.be or you can find me on Twitter. And my Twitter handle is @pdtit or 007FFFLearning for the company.

Discourse is all about deploying and migrating database workloads to the cloud using Azure SQL services. The structure of the course is in full showing here, covering the following items.

I start with a quick introduction and overview why you should run databases in the cloud and where it could be beneficial, followed by a list of more technical topics, starting with the Azure SQL deployment options. Next, I’ll be covering several features specifically to running your Azure SQL environment once it is deployed in Azure.

Next I dedicate a video talking about a different migration challenges and solutions available to help you migrating from an on prem or virtual machine based solution into Azure SQL. And then once you learned how to deploy and run your databases, or even how to migrate, I will talk about optimizing your actually running SQL Azure workloads.

Now for each of the topics I mentioned here, it will be a good mix of presentations, sharing some customer examples, and doing live demos. I hope you enjoy watching this course, learn from it, and get enthusiastic about using Azure and Azure SQL. Don’t hesitate reaching out in case of any questions.
