Structure of Higher Education System

Description

Tertiary education in Bhutan is education offered after Class XII. It encompasses both degree and diploma programmes and consists of both professional and general programmes that can be offered at undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral levels. The Department of Adult and Higher Education within the Ministry of Education is in charge of the sector. The majority of institutions are public, although there are two private institutions which are affiliated to the Royal University of Bhutan and Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan.

Stages of studies

University level first stage

Bachelor’s degree

Bachelor’s degrees are conferred in various subjects after three to four years (for an Honours degree) to students who have passed the Class XII examinations.

University level second stage
