Abstract

Simons was born in Virden, Illinois, and died in Chicago. An economist at the University of Chicago from 1927 to 1946, he was the first professor of economics at the University of Chicago Law School. A leader of the ‘Chicago School’, he had an important influence on American thinking about economic policy.
