Abstract
Karl Bücher was born in Kirberg (Germany) into a poor family. He studied history and classical philology in Bonn and Göttigen. Bücher first worked as a journalist for the liberal Frankfurter Zeitung, and from 1881 taught political economy in Dorpat, Basle, Karlsruhe and Leipzig, where he retired in 1917.
