Structure of Higher Education System

Description

Higher education is provided by universities, which can be divided into Central Universities, funded directly by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, and State Universities, set up and funded by various states. Deemed to be universities are single-faculty, multi-subject institutions which enjoy the same academic status and privileges of a university, and which may be public or private but which don’t have the right to call themselves a university. Institutions of National Importance are university-level institutions funded by the central government and include the Indian Institutes of Technology. Many universities are made up of numerous affiliated colleges. Universities are governed by statutory bodies such as the Academic Council, the Senate/Court and the Executive Council/Syndicate.
