Structure of Higher Education System
Description
Higher education in Peru is divided in university and non-university. It is provided by public, private and for-profit universities, higher education institutes and postgraduate schools. Bachiller courses at public universities are free. Universities are governed by a University Assembly, a University Council, a Rector, and Deans. The Rector is elected for a period of 5 years. Deans are elected for a period of 3 years. The National Assembly of Rectors (ANR) is an independent public body composed of the Rectors of both public and private universities. It is responsible for the study, coordination and guidance of university activities in the country. The replacement of the ANR by a structure under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education is under discussion.
