Structure of Higher Education System
Description
Higher education is provided by universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovative entreprise institutions. The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) is the organ of Government charged with policy formulation, monitoring of implementation and setting and maintenance of standards within the nation’s education sector. The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) are the supervisory bodies which coordinate the activities of the institutions of each sub-sector. The tertiary institutions draw a significant part of their funds from the proprietors (Federal Government, State Governments and Private proprietors) while the remaining part is internally generated from levies/charges/fees (for private institutions), international development partners, support from alumni associations, and linkages with industries in Nigeria and...
