Structure of Higher Education System
Description
Higher education is offered in universities, both general and specialized, technical faculties and higher technical and vocational institutions. Within public institutions, students need pay only a registration fee; at private institutions, students are responsible for tuition fees.
Stages of studies
University level first stage
Bachelor’s degree
The Bachelor’s degree is conferred after four years’ study (five years in Architecture, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and Engineering; 6 years in Medicine and Surgery) in universities.
University level second stage
Master’s degree
A Master’s degree is conferred after two years’ study following the Bachelor’s degree. Admission criteria are set by the Ministry.
University level third stage
Doctorate
A Doctorate may be awarded after three to four years’ research. The award of this degree is conditional upon the submission of a thesis. Admission criteria are set by the Ministry.
