This famous national park is located in northwestern Arizona near Nevada. It has a core protection area of 4,930 km2. The national park was carved by the Colorado River to form the world’s largest canyon, called the Grand Canyon, which is 1,500 m deep. Its horizontal strata record the past two billion years of geological history. There are also the remains of prehistoric human adaptation to a particularly harsh environment.
