Geopark studies are a new area of earth science that has grown along with the development of geoparks in the twentieth-first century. The research aims at addressing the problems associated with the establishment, operation and management of geoparks. These can include the classification, evaluation and protection of geological heritage, the formation of the landscape, geological features and phenomena, plans and designs, education and interpretation, visitor perceptions and behaviours, information technology and marketing, geohazard monitoring and control, and the formulation of laws and regulation. There are numerous research opportunities that will allow geoparks to develop better to meet the needs of people and society.
