Fluvial facies are a type of terrestrial facies. The term refers to a set of sediments or sedimentary rocks that form by the action of rivers or other runoff. Based on the environment and sediment characteristics, fluvial facies can be further subdivided into riverbed facies, embankment facies, floodplain facies and oxbow lake facies.
