This park is located in the mountainous region of the province of Quang Binh in central Vietnam near the border with Laos. The core protection area covers 8,575 km2. The karst landform of the Fengye-Gobain National Park developed during the Palaeozoic (approximately 400 million years ago) and is the oldest and most important karst region in Asia. The structure of the karst landscape is complex, and there are many types of geomorphological features of great scientific value. The 65-km-long cave system and underground rivers are parts of the outstanding landform structure.
