This park is located on the border between the eastern and southern regions of Cameroon. The reserve covers a core protection area of 5,260 km2 and is one of the largest and best-protected rainforests in Africa. Ninety percent of the area is undisturbed. It is almost completely surrounded by the Dja River and its tributaries, which form a natural boundary. The reserve is especially noted for its biodiversity and a wide variety of primates. It contains 107 mammal species, five of which are threatened.
