This is a fan-shaped landscape formed by alluvial deposits. When rivers in a mountainous area enter a flat region, their transportation capacity decreases drastically due to the abrupt reduction in the gradient. The debris carried by the water accumulates to form an alluvial fan that radiates out from where the river exits the mountains. Sometimes, the migration of a riverbed can cause the formation of an alluvial fan with a wide extent and gentle gradient. The superimposition and deformation of an alluvial fan is a direct evidence of neotectonic activity. The new and old alluvial fans in the hills near Beijing are superimposed and deformed.
