Chishui Danxia Geopark, Guizhou

This geopark is located in Chishui City in Guizhou Province. The geopark is administered by Zunyi City. It has a total area of 134 km2, and its main geological features cover an area of only 8 km2. It was designated as a national geopark by the Ministry of Land and Resources in December 2011. The geopark is dominated by Danxia landforms, including rare plateau and valley Danxia landscapes along the southern rim of a large subtropical basin with red strata. The thick Cretaceous continental sediments, unique geological history of landform development and favourable subtropical humid climate conditions contributed to the formation of the magnificent landscapes, such as deep gorges, undercutting valleys, cliffs, hanging walls and cascading waterfalls.
