Zhengzhou Yellow River National Geopark, Henan

Zhengzhou Yellow River National Geopark is located in Zhengzhou, Henan, and it extends from the Zhengzhou Yellow River Railway Bridge in the east to Niukouyu Valley, Xingyang, in the west. It became a national geopark in 2005. It is characterised by the Yellow River, loess and the Yellow River culture. It contains parts of the Loess Plateau and the Mangshan Loess Plateau, and it is on the southeastern part of the transitional zone between the Loess Plateau and the North China Plain. The Taohua Valley is the boundary between the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, and it is also the highest point on the Huanghuai fan-shaped alluvial plain and the starting point of the perched part of the Yellow River. Lateral erosion of the south-flowing Yellow River has formed steep banks and deep gullies on the northern side of the Mangshan Loess Plateau, exposing the thickest section of the Malan Loess in the country.
