This geopark is located in the coastal area of Zhangpu County and Longhai County in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province. It became a national geopark in 2001. It is mainly composed of Cenozoic basalt volcanic geological landscapes. Due to ocean erosion, the volcanic mechanism and eruption sequence are exposed clearly. The crater is typical and well-preserved with numerous volcanic gas release vents, clusters and 1.4 million hexagonal basaltic columnar joints. The park also contains attractive sea caves, beaches and other coastal erosional landforms as well as petrified wood from ancient forests from 8,000 years ago. It is a valuable site for scientific research on the evolution of the volcanic chain in the western Pacific.
