Synonym: Yellow soil
Yellow earth forms by desilication, aluminization (weaker than red earth) and the hydration of large amounts of iron oxide under tropical and subtropical high humidity and high temperature conditions. The soil is acidic, yellow and rich in goethite. Bleached layers may appear in the soil profile. Yellow earth is a zonal soil in subtropical regions of China, and it is located at approximately the same latitudes as red earth.
