Xujiayao Man Site

The Xujiayao Man site is a site of ancient human fossils that was discovered in 1974, and it is located on the west bank of Leiyigou in Xujiayao Village, Yanggao County, Shanxi Province. Twenty human fossils and more than 10,000 stone artefacts, bones, horn tools and abundant mammal fossils have been excavated at this site. The human fossils include parietal bones, occipital bones, temporal bones, upper and lower jaw bones and teeth of more than 10 early Homo sapiens. The stone artefacts include stone cores, stone flakes, sharp-tipped spikes, carving tools, stone drills and stone balls. The mammal fossils are mainly Myospalax fontanieri, Microtus brandtioides, Coelodonta antiquitatis, Equus ferus przewalskii, Gazella subgutturosa, Megaloceros ordosianus, Cervus elaphus, Equus hemionus, Spirocerus peii, and Bos taurus primigenius.
