This geopark is located in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. The geopark was designated as one of the fourth group of national geoparks by the Ministry of Land and Resources in August 2005. The terrain is high in the northwest and low in the southeast at elevations of 68–574 m. Its geological landscapes mainly include two tectonic lakes, five lacustrine deltas, meandering rivers, oxbow lakes, and wetlands. Daxingkaihu Lake is approximately 400 km long from north to south and 100 km wide with an area of 4,380 km2. Xiaoxingkaihu Lake has an oval shape and is 130 km long from north to south and 80 km wide from east to west; it has a water elevation of 69 m and an average depth of 3.5 m. With a maximum depth of 10 m, Xingkaihu Lake is the largest freshwater lake in East Asia.
