This geopark is located in Changshan County, Zhejiang Province. The main geologic features are the global boundaries of the Middle Ordovician Darrellian stage (approximately 460 million to 455 million years ago) and the combination of biofossils. In February 2002, the Ministry of Land and Resources approved it as one of the second group of national geoparks. The section of the Huangnitang Formation in the park is the global boundary stratotype section and point (GSSP) of the Middle Ordovician Darrellian terrace, and a permanent mark was established on this section (namely, the ‘golden spike’ that is commonly known by the geoscience community). Fossils such as graptolites and conodonts are abundant in the section.
