Xi Guo (1023–1085), nicknamed Chunfu, was a native of Wen county in Henan Province. He was a landscape painter. During his career, he developed many brilliant principles of landscape appreciation that contributed to research in landscape culture and nature tourism. He was named the landscape painting master during the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty. His surviving works include ‘Early Spring’, ‘Spring Snow in Guanshan’, and ‘Secluded Valley’. His son, Xi Guo, compiled his painting theories and other details in a collection called ‘Lin Quan Gao Zhi’ (The Lofty Interests of Forest and Spring).
