Wuyishan is located 15 km south of Chongan City. It has a total area of 79 km2. It has a Danxia landform and is composed of red Cretaceous rocks, predominately sandstone and conglomerates. The structure of the hills is monoclinic with well-developed vertical joints, which have weathered to form cliffs, gorges, sharp peaks, mesas (or fangshans), caves and other unique landforms. The area has been described as one of the world’s most interesting landscapes. The highest peak is Sanyangfeng, which is 717 m tall. The area contains more than 400 ancient monuments and cliff inscriptions of the Yue People as well as seven scenic sites, including Taoyuan Cave and Jiuqu.
