Certain geological processes in some rock layers can form complex, spectacular cave tourism resource systems. Examples are karst caves formed by the dissolution of rocks composed of calcium carbonate as well as lava tunnels formed in lava flows, caves formed by the stacking of fallen rocks, sea caves formed by wave erosion, and caves formed by groundwater erosion. These features constitute a cave tourism resource system below the ground, inside mountains and deep in the Earth’s crust.
