This book was edited by Mingde Lei and was published by Northwest University Press in 1988. It includes an introduction to tourism, a brief history of tourism geography, tourism geography resources, direction and volume of tourist flows, tourism transport geography, tourism ecology and environmental protection, tourism appreciation, tourism planning and maps, and the geographical divisions of tourism in China and around the world.
This is an interdisciplinary subject of geography and tourism and is a new subject of earth science. Theories and methods of geography are used to study the relationship between human travelling habits, patterns and preferences with their geographical and socio-economic environments. The interactions between different mechanisms and processes are studied to highlight the spatial pattern and organisation for better tourism planning and management.
