A theme park is a new type of park planned and built around a specific theme embodying unique environmental and amusement projects. It is a stage for recreation and entertainment activities as well as a leisure and entertainment industry. In 1955, Walt Disney built the world’s first Disneyland in Los Angeles, pioneering the development of theme park. On 21 September 1989, the opening of ‘Splendid China’ in the Overseas Chinese Town of Shenzhen marked the birth of China’s theme parks. Currently, China’s theme parks are categorised according to different themes, namely, folk customs, natural ecology, future science and technology, history and culture, miniature landscapes, leisure and recreation.
