This geopark became a global geopark in 2007. It is located in the Torbay district of Devon, England, and covers 104 km2. The area surrounding the park has rich geodiversity and well-exposed geological features from the Devonian to the Pleistocene. The geological landscape has a close relationship with the people of Torbay. It is one of the most concentrated areas of the British Geological Protection Area. There are 11 special scientific sites of interest and national protected areas (SSSI) and 15 regionally important areas (RIGS). The Torbay District has a dedicated agency that is directly responsible for the management of most of the protected areas. It also undertakes education and community activities related to the sustainable use of natural heritage in Torbay.
