A text stone is an ornamental stone that can arouse the appreciative feeling of viewers through its intrinsic meaning, which is represented by the changing tones of its pattern and texture. Stones with the Chinese characters ‘Zhong’, ‘Hua’, ‘Qi’ and ‘Shi’ are typical examples of text stones. There are many text stones with several Chinese calligraphy styles, including zhuan (seal), li (scribe), kai (norm) and xing (running). The characters on text stones are natural and are comparable to writing except that they are written on another base. There is a ‘Cangzishi’ (Character Stone) in Guizhou Pingtang National Geopark with five Chinese characters resembling ‘Chinese Communist Party’. This is a typical text stone (Fig. 17).
