This geopark is located in Tai’an City in central Shandong Province, and it covers an area of 158 km2. It became a global geopark in 2006. The geopark is divided into the Taishan core area and outer area. The core area has five geosites, namely, Hongmen, Zhongtianmen, Nantianmen, Houshiwu, and Taohuayu. The outer area has three geosites: Lianhua Mountain, Laoshan Mountain, and Taoshan Mountain. The geopark is located in the western part of the continental margin tectonic belt of eastern China. Taishan is located in the Luzhonglong fault zone in the Ruxi block of the North China Platform and is a secondary structural unit of this platform. Taishan’s rich geological heritage resources have important research value for geosciences such as petrology, stratigraphy and palaeontology, sedimentology, tectonics, geomorphology, and earth history.
