This is a cap-like mountain landform that is formed by dissolution. In areas with carbonate rocks, isolated cap-like mountains with flat tops, steep cliffs and gentle slopes can form due to dissolution and gravitational collapse in strata with different lithologies. This type of landform is called ‘gu’ in Shandong Province, and it resembles the karst isolated peak landscape in southern China. Baodugu on Xionger Mountain has been rated as the best of the 72 gu (solution caps) in central Shangdong Province. There is also a Sinian limestone solution cap in the Huangling anticline around the Three Gorges (Fig. 35).
