This is a landscape composed of horizontal grooves along the edges of cave walls. They form near the water surface, and the height and width generally do not exceed 1 m. These grooves mainly form inside karst caves, and they can sometimes be found on steep cliffs surrounded by water outside the cave. Side grooves are often layered, indicating that the water level has changed. Each layer corresponds to a period of stable water. Side grooves that develop on cliffs outside a cave may have been formed by biological activity as well as water dissolution.
