This park is located in the town of Jugezhuang, Miyun County, Beijing, and has a total area of 16.30 km2. The Ministry of Land and Resources approved it as a national mining park in May 2010. The area around the park has a long mining history extending over 2,000 years. There are records of iron ore mining from as early as the Western Han Dynasty (202–8 BC), and the area was once the largest iron ore mine in Beijing. The ore deposits were associated with metamorphosed volcanic-sedimentary rocks and Precambrian banded ferrosilicon. The mining site in the park is relatively complete and preserves the unique processes and activities from prospecting to mining and refining. The geotourism resources include mineral and mining production sites, relics of mining activities, and historical records of mining development and mining products, which have great value for tourism development and utilisation.
