This geopark is located near the Arctic Circle and contains a wide variety of glacial landforms. It covers an area of 1,326 km2 and became a global geopark in 2010. The park consists of the Oulujoki Canyon Park, the Loko Serpentine Hill Park and the Lake Oulujärvi Park. Glacial landforms are widely distributed in Loko Serpentine Hill Park. Lakes and potholes are also abundant, and the country’s deepest potholes are located here. The Loqaul National Park has large pine forests. Oulujoki Canyon is a national-level landscape area that is located in the north-south plant transition zone and contains rich vegetation types. Lake Oulujärvi is one of Finland’s largest open lakes. The lake and blue sky form stunning scenery.
