It is essential to design an overall zoning plan for the development of nature-based tourism in an area. Several tasks are involved. The first is to investigate and study the types, scale, quality, and conditions of geological and geographical formations and the distribution of the resources. Based on the results, a scientific evaluation of the economic and social values of these resources should be conducted. Then, an integrated plan for developing nature-based tourism as a core business of the area is developed. This research provides an understanding of the formation, development, changes and inherent characteristics of the nature-based tourism area. In addition, by using a more scientific approach, objectives and guidelines for the tourist destination can be developed. Currently, there are no standardised zoning methods in China.
