Qianjiang Xiaonanhai National Geopark is located in Qianjiang, a district in southeastern Chongqing, approximately 400 km from the city. In March 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources as one of the third group of national geoparks. It is dominated by earthquake-induced barrier lakes and also contains other geological landscapes. Its main features include the Xiaonanhai earthquake site, Bamianshan karst landforms, Yangtoushan karst geological landscape, ancient fossils, sedimentary structures, remnants of ancient glaciers, erosional landforms generated by flowing water, the historic base of the 9th Division of the Red Army and an ancient monument commemorating free ferry service.
