This is a collective term for palaeontological fossils with fossils of ancient hominid species that can be used for tourism development. These fossils are important evidence for studies of the origin and evolution of life. Fossils with distinctive shapes or a beautiful appearance are tourist favourites, and many geological parks have been built on palaeontological sites. The following geoparks were established in connection with palaeontological fossils: Zigong in Sichuan Province (dinosaurs), Lufeng in Yunnan Province (dinosaurs), Liujiaxia in Gansu Province (dinosaur footprints), Jiayin in Heilongjiang Province (dinosaurs), Chaoyang in Liaoning Province (feathered dinosaurs), Xixia in Henan Province (dinosaur eggs), Yanqing in Beijing (petrified wood, dinosaur footprints), Chengjiang in Yunnan Province (Cambrian explosion) and Fangshan in Beijing (Peking Man, Homo erectus pekinensis). Palaeontological landscapes have become important tourism resources.
