This is a general term for the human fossils from 10,000 years ago. The evolution path from apes to humans is: Australopithecus, Peking Man (Homo erectus pekinensis), archaic Homo sapiens (ancient man) and late Homo sapiens (new man). The new man and the modern man belong to the same subspecies, and the others are extinct. Important ancient human fossils found in China include Dryopithecus wuduensis, Lufengpithecus lufengensis, Homo erectus yuanmouensis (1.7 million to 1.8 million years ago), Homo erectus lantianensis (750,000–980,000 years ago), Yunxian Man (830,000–890,000 years ago), Homo erectus pekinensis (290,000–600,000 years ago), Homo erectus nankinensis (approximately 400,000 years ago), Dali man (150,000–200,000 years), Changyang Man (195,000 years ago), Maba Man (129,000–130,000 years ago), Hetao Man (30,000–50,000 years ago), Liujiang Man (20,000 years ago) and the Upper Cave Man (13,000–20,000 years ago) (Fig. 2).
