Niokolo-Koba National Park is located in southeastern Senegal along the border between the provinces of East Senegal and Casamance, near Guinea. It covers a core protection area of 9,130 km2. Gallery forests and savannahs are located along the banks of the Gambia River due to the availability of water. The geopark is rich in fauna, such as the Derby elands (the largest of the antelopes), chimpanzees, lions, leopards, a large population of elephants, and many birds, reptiles and amphibians.
