Nature reserves are specially protected areas, such as representative natural ecosystems, natural concentrated areas of rare and endangered wild animals and plants and unique natural relics. Nature reserves in China are divided into three categories: natural ecosystems, wildlife, and natural relics. Nature reserves play a role in protecting the environment and natural resources and also provide tourists with opportunities for ecotourism and environmental education activities.
