Mining heritage sites include typical outcrops of mineral deposits, mining pits, remains of mines (such as mine shafts), mineral processing and metallurgical relics, and also mining-related cultural relics and cultural landscapes. They are not only important geological heritage sites but also important cultural or historical heritage. They are of great significance to the restoration of the environment and cultural history as well as to the transformation of post-mining sites to regional sustainable development after the cessation and closure of mines. Normally, rehabilitation and maintenance must be performed to restore the mining facilities and remediate the environmental and ecological damage. Proper planning and construction of facilities are necessary to meet the needs of recreation and tourism. The establishment of mining parks is one of the effective ways to protect and restore mining heritage sites.
