Marble is a metamorphic rock with a carbonate mineral content over 50%. It is mainly composed of recrystallized calcite and dolomite and small amounts of metamorphosed marker minerals, such as tremolite, diopside, serpentine, phlogopite, scapolite, olivine, wollastonite and quartz. It generally has a granoblastic and flaky structure. It is formed by the regional metamorphism or thermal contact metamorphism of carbonate rocks (limestone and dolomite).
