This is a loess landscape with gullies formed by the erosion of transient linear currents. It is an important form of loess erosion that is characterised by deep grooves, steep walls and obvious backward erosion. The gully depths range from several metres to more than 10 m, and the lengths vary from hundreds to thousands of metres. The gully bottoms are narrow with V-shaped cross-sections and steep walls. The gully bed gradient is high; therefore, the water and gravity erosion are strong. Water erosion will cut the ground into a network of gullies, reflecting the power of external geological forces (Fig. 37).
