The park is located on the edge of Kalimantan, Malaysia, in northern Sabah. The core protection area covers 753.7 km2. At 4,095 m above sea level, Mount Kinabalu is the most beautiful peak between the Himalayas and New Guinea. The park displays a wide variety of animal and plant habitats, including lush tropical lowland and mountain rainforests, tropical forests, low forests, and the Shushan bushes. The park was designated as a Southeast Asian Plant Diversity Conservation Centre and contains plants from the Himalayas, China, Australia, Malaysia, and other tropical vegetation areas.
