The Himalayan movement is the orogeny that has occurred in Asia and the surrounding regions since the Cenozoic Era. It is composed of multiple episodes. The Himalayan movement caused the ocean to retreat from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and the subsequent extensive uplift formed the highest mountains in the world. It created the Himalayan orogenic belt and caused strong folding, large-scale thrust-nappe tectonics, extensive igneous intrusions and regional metamorphism. The Himalayan movement created the modern landscape in China and has had a significant influence on the recent changes to the geologic environment, seismic activity and crustal stability.
